Network and communications service provider Colt is expanding its financial extranet service Colt PrizmNet to Hong Kong and Singapore. Colt has partnered with Equinix's International Business Exchange data centers in Hong Kong and Singapore, which will enable it to connect with key foreign exchange (FX) centers, globally and in Asia. This includes direct connectivity to Equinix's TY3 data center in Tokyo as well as Sydney.

According to Colt, this move will double Colt PrizmNet's existing footprint in Hong Kong and Singapore, making it available to financial services firms in proximity to local exchanges as well as those co-located at HKEX and SGX's data centers.

"It is often challenging for traders in Asia to connect to the region's scattered liquidity centers, particularly its FX markets," says Richard Man, head of solution sales, capital markets, for Colt in Asia Pacific.

He adds that the expansion in Hong Kong and Singapore will provide a more "flexible and cost-effective solution" for customers hosted in Equinix IBX data centers in each city.

Colt PrizmNet is a managed connectivity solution for capital markets firms wanting to increase their opportunities to trade across all of Asia's major FX centers. The extranet also provides a scalable and secure platform to rapidly connect and support market participants in areas such as multimarket trading data, best execution and algo testing .

It is also connected to Equinix data centers across Europe and the US, including those in London, Frankfurt, Zurich and New York, in addition to Colt's 34 data centers across Europe and Asia.

"With the growing need for, and complexity of, interconnection within the global financial markets, we have seen increased demand for our solutions and services across Asia-Pacific," explains David Wilkinson, senior director and Asia-Pacific lead of global enterprise & financial services at Equinix. "More and more firms are seeking to take advantage of the global opportunities that interconnection presents."
